Bowen Technique is a gentle yet powerful soft tissue bodywork therapy that assists the body to rebalance, reset and heal itself. As the therapy is holistic, it addresses the body as a whole, rather than just treating the presenting symptoms.
Because Bowen is so gentle and non-invasive, it is considered to be suitable for all ages.
The Bowen Practitioner applies a gentle rolling-type movement over the muscles, tendons or ligaments. This specific cross-fibre movement is used to release tension and energetic blocks held in the body, allowing the whole system to rebalance and reset itself naturally, promoting deep relaxation and therefore maximising the potential for healing.
On an emotional level, Bowen can help to relieve stress and trauma, and has a calming effect on the nervous system.
Bowen Technique is known to be particularly effective in treating:
| - Allergies | - Muscular tension |
| - Asthma | - Pelvic tilt issues |
| - Back pain | - Sciatica |
| - Fibroids | - Sprains/strains |
| - Frozen shoulder | - Tennis elbow |
| - IBS/constipation | - Trapped nerves |
| - Menstrual problems | - TMJ |
Although Bowen is a powerful tool for treating ailments, injuries and imbalances in the body, many people in good health enjoy regular treatments to maintain optimal body balance by providing more energy and an overall sense of well-being.
What to expect in a session:
A Bowen session lasts for one hour with the client lying on a treatment couch. No oils are used and the treatment is done through light clothing or directly on the skin.
Between each set of moves the therapist pauses for several minutes at a time. This is crucial in the Bowen session as it allows the body to relax and make its own adjustments.
