Mike Cassidy trained in body acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. He has also been trained in the use of ear (or auricular) acupuncture at the Yuan College of Traditional Medicine in London. He is fully insured and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the UK's main regulating body for traditional acupuncture.
Prior to becoming an acupuncturist, Mike worked as an academic in the field of Neuroscience, and was a postdoctorate researcher at UCL for 6 years. He now sits on the British Acupuncture Council's research committee, which is involved with the promotion and dissemination of acupuncture-related research. He also currently supervises BSc Acupuncture students who are completing their final year dissertation at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine.
Mike is actively involved in community-based projects. He was part of a team of acupuncturists who travelled to Sri Lanka to provide acupuncture for the victims of the recent Tsunami. During that trip he taught a group of local Sri Lankan Buddhist monks and Ayurvedic students the basic techniques of ear acupuncture to empower them to continue to help their local community after the initial disaster. During this trip they treated and helped over 2000 people in 3 weeks.
In addition to his experience with acupuncture and herbs, Mike is a Qigong and Tai Chi practitioner and teacher. He has studied a number of styles with different teachers. He studied Taijiwuxigong and Buqi (a style of Qigong and Qigong healing) with Dr Shen Hong Xun, and is currently practising Yang style Tai Chi and water method Qigong with Chris Chappell in London. He runs a regular morning Qigong class in the King's Cross area.
